Mother/Moon is the latest audio/visual album release by Kris Vango. The pseudonym of musical composer, graphic designer and astrologer Kristen Howard. An ongoing project forging a musical map of the solar system. Producing audio and visual works central to each planet and their moon, reflecting their obsession with the space in-between cosmos and psyche. The organic and the synthetic. Logos and mythos.

Born in Australia of UK descent, Kris has based themselves for the greater part of the last decade in Berlin, Germany and Athens, Greece. Working within the underground scenes of Athens & Berlin producing and collaborating locally through music and other multi-disciplinary formats.

Nomadic at heart and a self-described “digital vagabond artist” in constant travel with most of their sound and visual work produced on-the-road and in response to nature, monuments and cultural iconography - their sounds echo taking the side roads in nostalgic reflection and taking time to enjoy the view. Choosing to release their work independently and on-the-go to enable the ability to create on their own terms. Which is often perpendicular to the rigid constructs of commercial music release schedules Mother/Moon was originally written and released as a different album back in 2018/2019. The new version, with all new track listing and visual accompaniments reflects Kris’ growth as an artist post pandemic. Where club closures, lockdowns and a creative agitation forced them to pursue new formats of visual performance. Choosing to chase after nature than city venues and stages.

The new works were mostly filmed at Cleethorpes beach which features an inspiring natural setting of one of the UK’s largest natural estrys and dramatic tides, immediately after Vango’s grandfathers passing and constructed in his flat. An homage to the mother's lineage, symbolic of the moon, the woman, the womb and the mother, where their own Mother grew up and was born. this re-imagining post-pandemic of a pre-pandemic vision feels truly connected to the autobiography of their life. Where creation isn’t sought out, but a direct response to the immediate environments, places and natural settings they discover on their nomadic path. Bringing together their skills in production, design, film-making and deep pursuit into spiritual philosophies.
